Graduate Nutrition Jobs
There are many graduate nutrition jobs available in the field of nutrition. Some of these roles include working as a dietitian, nutritionist, food scientist, and more.
As we understand more about nutrition and diet, there are more roles out there within food and healthcare companies, and even the NHS.
If you have recently graduated with a related degree, there are both graduate schemes for nutrition-related jobs, and roles you can go straight into with your qualification.
Which Degrees Can Lead to Nutrition Jobs?
Most employers will prefer candidates who have a science-based degree such as human biology, food science, or dietetics.
Other graduate nutrition jobs may require a postgraduate degree in a specific area of nutrition. For example, if you are interested in graduate sports nutrition jobs, you can study for a Sports Exercise and Nutrition MSc.
There are lots of routes into the industry, but a high level of education is usually required.
What Nutrition Jobs Are Available?
There are a few different graduate nutrition jobs and specialist areas you can go into.
The biggest employer of nutritionists in the UK is undeniably the NHS. They have a requirement for dietitians to work with people suffering from specific illnesses and with those who need to stick to specific diets.
Some of the most popular graduate nutrition jobs include working as a:
- Dietitian. Either through the NHS or a private company, dietitians work with patients to assess their diet and give nutritional advice.
- Nutritionist. A nutritionist is similar to a dietitian but usually works in the food industry, providing advice on food products and diets.
- Food Scientist. Working for food companies, supermarkets, or the government, food scientists develop new foods and test existing products.
- Health Educator. Health educators work in the education or charity sector to promote healthy eating and lifestyle choices. If you wish to become a nutrition teacher you may also need a teaching qualification.
