Weekday: £12.53 per hour (£11.14 per hour plus 12.5% of annual leave)
Night/Saturday: £16.92 per hour (inclusive of 12.5% annual leave uplift WTD)
Sunday/ Bank Holiday : £21.18 per hour (inclusive of 12.5% annual leave uplift WTD)

Main duties of the job
To work as a member of the ward team to provide basic patient care under the supervision of a Registered Nurse
To assist in the other ward team and department duties (including administration) as directed by the Registered Nurse
As a member of the nursing team you are expected to demonstrate attitudinal competence through a professional, approachable and helpful manner towards clients, their families and carers, visitors and colleagues throughout the organisation. You are also expected to actively support high standards of care delivery and challenge poor practice should you find it.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities
Assist in delivering a high standard of holistic care to patients in a friendly, respectful and professional manner.
Promote patient dignity and privacy.
Assist in the orientation of patients and new staff to the ward environment
Undertake a patients basic admission procedure in preparation for clinician assessment
Contribute to and interpret care plans accurately and consistently
Carry out delegated care tasks such as escort duty and assist with patient daily living activities such as washing and dressing, shopping, cooking etc.
Assist at mealtimes to ensure patients have an adequate diet and a meal of their choice and bring any problems to the attention of the Registered Nurse or Shift Co-ordinator
Obtain specimens such as stool, urine and sputum as directed
Assist patients in keeping their bed areas tidy and their possessions safe.
Observe and report any changes in patients conditions to the Registered Nurse or shift Co-ordinator
Undertake patient timed observations in accordance with Trust Observation Policy
Undertake and record accurately clinical observations such height and weight.
Encourage patients to engage in general communication and more specifically to feel able to talk about concerns, needs and wants and feed back communications to Registered Nurses and Shift Co-ordinator
Communicate with relatives and carers in a friendly, helpful and respectful manner
Liaise with other relevant individuals involved with the patient as appropriate and agreed with the patient and the registered nurse
Write accurate records of care activities and communications with patients, relatives and carers in patients notes and countersigned by Registered Nurses
Support patients with individual needs and choices
Give formal verbal and/or written hand-over of patient care
Assist the ward team to identify and manage areas of risk in ward environment to safeguard health and Safety for patients and staff
Report all accidents and incidents to the Registered Nurse or Shift Co-ordinator
Assist ward housekeepers and others to keep the ward clean and tidy
Participate in the management of emergencies e.g. cardiac arrest and self harm
Participate in the management of incidents of aggression
Undertake administrative duties as delegated by senior staff

Qualifications
Essential criteria
A good command of English Language
Good IT skills
Desirable criteria
NVQ Level 2 or 3 in Health & Social Care or equivalent
Qualification related to Mental Health issues
Experience/Knowledge

Ability to work as an active and supportive member of the team
Ability to support & motivate patients

Experience of working on a Mental Health Inpatient Ward

Ability to attend 5 day PEACE Teamwork Training Course
Ability to work a 24 hour rota system including weekends and bank holidays
Candidates not currently employed by the Trust who attend an interview for non-qualified Band 1-5 posts are required to undertake numeracy and literacy assessments.
