Cyber Security Graduate Jobs

Cyber Security graduate jobs are at an all-time high. And with more and more jobs in cybersecurity expected over the coming years, there’s never been a better time to start your career in cybersecurity. Read on to find out more.

We live in a world that is more connected to and reliant on technology than ever before. The number of active smartphone users in the UK is expected to reach 64.89 million by the year 2025, a whopping 15% increase since 2018. That’s over 96% of the entire UK population. And with so many of us connected to the internet at all times, it opens the door even wider to cybersecurity attacks on all levels. These attacks can range from hacking your personal smartphone to data breaches on a global scale.

The Cybersecurity Skills Shortage

A government study carried out in 2020 showed that nearly half (48%) of UK businesses have a basic skills gap among those who are in charge of cybersecurity. In other words, they lack the confidence and skills to carry out basic tasks like configuring firewalls, storing and transferring data securely, and detecting and removing malware. It’s no surprise, therefore, that in 2021, two out of five (39%) UK businesses reported suffering cybersecurity attacks or breaches.

So, if you’re a cybersecurity graduate, there’s no time like the present to be in the labour market.

Benefits of a Career in Cybersecurity

Apart from there being a high demand for cybersecurity professionals, a career in cybersecurity also has many other benefits.

Salary

Starting salaries in the cybersecurity sector generally fall between £25,000 to £35,000. Experienced and senior roles can reach a salary of £60,000, while high-level and managerial roles can be in excess of £70,000.

On top of these salaries, you’ll often receive a range of benefits including pension schemes, bonuses, medical insurance, gym memberships, and training and development opportunities.

Training and Development

As this is an ever-evolving sector, the need for continuous training and development is high among employees. The vast majority of organisations will provide this training at no cost to the employee. This means that you’ll always be ahead of the curve and have a deep knowledge of emerging industry trends.

Remote Work

Making the most of the ability to work remotely is a huge benefit for cybersecurity professionals. Many organisations will offer employees a hybrid-working model, with some days working remotely and others on location.

Graduate Jobs in Cyber Security

Cybersecurity graduates can find work in a variety of organisations across both the public and private sectors. You could be providing security services internally within your organisation or perhaps offering security services or consulting to other external companies.
