The Faculty of Arts & Humanities is committed to providing students with an exceptional experience, offering them the best opportunity to succeed in their degree and future life. The Student Experience Team (SET) consists of a Student Experience Manager, and three Student Experience Administrators. The team works to enhance the student experience by transforming the Faculty’s student facing functions and maintaining an inclusive community environment. The Student Experience Team works on projects identified within the Student Experience Strategy, which focuses on five key areas:

  • Engagement, retention and success
  • Inclusion and community
  • Accessibility
  • Tackling attainment gaps
  • Students as co-creators
  • You will work on projects such as Welcome to King’s, buddy schemes, student communications, student voice, inclusive education, cohort-building activities and events, and student partnership initiatives. We work collaboratively with students and staff within the Faculty, and with staff across the College. We enhance existing good practice within the Faculty, and this particular role will work with the departments in the Arts Cluster: Culture, Media & Creative Industries; Digital Humanities; Film Studies; Liberal Arts; and Music. Equity and Inclusion are key factors in our work. We recognise that for all students to feel welcome, celebrated and accepted for who they are, and to have a fulfilling university experience, students from underrepresented backgrounds and students experiencing difficult circumstances may require specific support. You will be intensely motivated to improve the student experience and to make Higher Education a more accessible, equitable, inclusive space for all students. You will be given opportunities to create real change, and will be supported to develop your own skills and experience. This post will be offered on an indefinite contract. This is a full-time post.

    Key responsibilities

  • Support the Student Experience Manager in delivering a programme of student engagement (e.g. improving communication within the Faculty); curriculum development activities (e.g. assessment and feedback); cohort-building activities (e.g. social events); and student partnership initiatives.
  • Manage agreed projects identified in the Student Experience Strategy and Inclusion and Community Plan.
  • Support Faculty activity related to key student lifecycle events, such as Welcome and Graduation.
  • Promote collaborative working to deliver an excellent the student experience and enhance our inclusive community throughout the Cluster and across the Faculty.
  • Observe, evaluate and suggest improvements to existing working practices related to student experience, and embed strategies for ongoing success.
  • Attend and support Student Voice initiatives (e.g. Student Staff Liaison Committees), spotting trends across the Cluster and Faculty that need improvement.
  • Provide detailed analysis of student feedback to relevant colleagues within the team, Department and Faculty and recommend appropriate action and responses.
  • Support the creation, development and delivery of module and programme development plans.
  • Liaise closely with programme teams, professional services colleagues, academic colleagues and student representatives to ensure students feel supported within their programme of study.
  • Work closely with the Student Experience Manager, Associate Director: Education and Heads of Department to address complaints and concerns raised by students throughout their programme of study.
  • Keep up to date with relevant internal and external strategy, policy and service innovations to inform best practice and continually drive excellence.
  • Liaise with teams across the College, such as Careers, Student Success, and Counselling and Mental Health.
  • Represent the department and Faculty at appropriate internal and external meetings.
  • Undertake other student experience-related activities.

    Essential criteria

  • An understanding of, full commitment to, and experience of improving the student experience.

Excellent interpersonal skills, comfortable interacting with a diverse range of stakeholders. 4. A proactive, positive, creative and pragmatic approach to problem-solving. 5. Ability to work effectively as part of a team. 6. Ability to network and develop new relationships both externally and internally with a collaborative approach to work, supporting others, demonstrating tact and diplomacy. 7. Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including the ability to communicate effectively in an assured manner with a range of stakeholders 8. Excellent IT skills, across all elements of Microsoft Office. 9. Excellent time management and organisation skills, able to manage a varied workload and prioritise tasks in a busy work environment. 10. Experience of balancing competing priorities under pressure of deadlines, and comprehending complex situations quickly. 11. Excellent negotiation and influencing skills. 12. Demonstrable experience in administration, preferably in an academic environment, and interest in Higher Education issues. Desirable criteria 1. Knowledge of change management and project management techniques. 2. Experience in establishing, developing and implementing effective procedures and processes. 3. Experience of streamlining different approaches into consistent ways of working. 4. Experience and knowledge of maintaining webpages, newsletters and/or social media accounts. 5. Previous role related to improving the student experience, preferably in a Higher Education environment. 6. Knowledge of administrative processes within a Higher Education environment. 7. Educated to degree level or equivalent experience. Interviews will take place on 4 August 2021
