Student Development Office, School of Social and Political Science, College of Arts, Humanities and Social Sciences

Full Time, 35 hours per week

Fixed term until 31/07/2022

You will use your experience of event management, and excellent communication and interpersonal skills, to provide administrative and logistical support to students, staff and external organisations involved in delivering development activities and to support development and delivery of student events for undergraduate and postgraduate students, including day-to-day management of the School’s two Edinburgh Awards.

The Opportunity:

The postholder will support the Student Development Office and the Student Development Manager in the development and delivery of student events for undergraduate and postgraduate students, including day-to-day management of the School’s two Edinburgh Awards. The role will be responsible for providing administrative and logistical support to students, staff, and external organisations involved in delivering development activities. The Student Development Office offers in excess of 100 workshops, seminars and lectures each academic year.

Your skills and attributes for success:

  • Vocational qualifications (N/SVQ 3, ONC or equivalent) plus some work experience in a relevant role; or School education to standard grade or equivalent plus relevant work experience
  • Experience of event management
  • Working knowledge of standard software packages (including MS Office) and possibly non-standard software
  • An understanding of finance, financial systems and a high standard of numeracy
  • Excellent communication and inter-personal skills
  • Excellent skills in the ordering and presentation of information in print and via web
  • Ability to manage workload and prioritise requests
  • Ability to work without intensive supervision, using initiative and decision making skills, as well as part of a team
