Volvo Group Operations Graduate Program
If you are up for the challenge of developing the next generation of production plants and want to be a part of the innovative world of Volvo Group, this is the graduate program for you!
 
During 15 intense and exciting months, the program will give you a holistic view of the Volvo Group’s global truck manufacturing organization. You will get to know our different brands and their plants and learn about our logistics organizations and activities. You will take a deep dive into some specific areas of our business such as manufacturing, health and safety, quality, and continuous improvements, while also learning about the end-to-end supply chain, aftermarket parts, and our remanufacturing operations.

In parallel, you will grow as a person, through individual and team development sessions. You will have a permanent position from day one, with a manager and mentor to support you. You will experience several “on-the-job” rotations and have the opportunity to work on real project assignments. In addition, you will join a number of learning modules where you get together with other program participants to take part in trainings and events designed to help you grow into your future career at the Volvo Group.

Our organization:
The Lehigh Valley plant is responsible for the production of Mack trucks for North American customers and export markets. As part of that, the Manufacturing Engineering Team is responsible for defining and optimizing the Assembly Operation processes of all Mack trucks. Our highly motivated manufacturing engineering team drives new technologies into our existing assembly processes to ensure our products’ safety, quality, and delivery. As a part of this larger group, your team focuses on emerging and advanced technologies that will help support our factory to meet challenges, such as electromobility, that are currently facing the transportation industry. We have just completed the biggest transformation since the existence of our plant, called Mack Reborn, but we aren’t stopping there. To take the next leap, our team learns and develops new technologies to meet the specific needs of our factory today and help ensure we are ready for the products of tomorrow. These new technologies will help drive our industry 4.0 transformation, integrating existing operating infrastructure with next generation systems, processes and tools. We have the freedom to explore emerging technologies, challenge the current limitations, implement proof of concepts, and build upon our successes and failures. Job Description: 
The purpose of the position is to advance the technology area of Data Science and AI and ML with the digitalization journey going on in our operation. You will be responsible for developing and implementing smart simple and secure solutions for the operation to achieve the world-class quality of our products and delivering operational excellence in industrial operation at the same time with a data-centric approach. You will be handling our operations data and serve the needs of businesses to create solutions for better decision-making. You will responsible for the development of algorithms to drive our industrial process through data and develop a more comprehensive solution to add value to the business.

You will also be developing the future manufacturing technologies concerning Volvo Group’s journey in emerging technology. You will support the Manufacturing Engineering Technology development team to develop their roadmap and technology transformation. In that perspective, you will prepare the implementation of the Product and Process changes with the operational teams in the plants and you will interact with Volvo Group Design departments.
And eventually, you will participate in our journey to reach Excellence by developing the Mack Production System in the Engineering environment. You are expected to think out of the box to bring moon-shot ideas to benefit to bring business values through innovation and technology. 
 
Main activities and responsibilities:

  • Drive technology development roadmap in the data science AI and ML and digitalization area.
  • Serve as technology area owner in the data science AI and ML and digitalization knowledge area. 
  • Active participation in Global networks, escalate plants needs to the network. 
  • Assist maintenance technicians with troubleshooting with implemented technology & systems. Develop and plan expertise development for data-centric engineers and colleagues.
  • Develop synergies with other technology areas of Automation/ Electromobility / IIOT to find a more collaborative solution for our factory.
  • Development of future data engineering solutions geared towards the lowest possible cost and with flexibility for product and volume changes in mind. 
  • Assist with necessary counseling, training, and discipline to obtain the optimum effectiveness of the team. 
  • Develop and maintain AI/ML roadmap and new technology integration plan.
  • Be the manufacturing and IT point of entry contact with Technology organizations regarding AI/ML and Data Science issues. 
  • Benchmark external companies and research agencies to ensure the external view on relevant global processes and technology trends. 
  • Ensure the link between global Manufacturing Engineering and Product Portfolio management to ensure close alignment between future product and manufacturing processes and technology.
  • Who are you?

  • Bachelor’s degree in Data Science, Computer Science, Information Technology, or related field
  • Preferable relevant experience in Data Analytics, Predictive IA/ML algorithms.
  • Maximum two years of previous working experience, before or after graduation.
