Are you a Maths Graduate looking to develop your school based experience?

Do you have a prior experience supporting students?

Schools in Scarborough are seeking a Maths graduate to join the staffing team in Oct 2021.

The role will primairly focus on working as a Teaching Assistant within the department, providing specialist support to students across a range of abilities. 

Requirements for this role are as follows:

  • A degree in Maths.
  • Previous experience tutoring Maths on an individual or small group basis.
  • Ambitions of becoming a teacher or continuing a long term career within school based support capacity.

The school is looking to appoint a number of graduates to support students across the core subjects. This support is particularly needed after the Covid-19 period, having caused a significant amount of disruption to student learning. The graduate will need to be confident in looking to actively impact student attainment, by providing an engaging learning atmosphere in order for students to develop at the required rate. Regular communication with teaching staff will be vital in order to make this role a success.

The individual required will be expected to work with students whose numerical skills are considered to hold them back currently from obtaining their target grade. Many of these students will have SEN, and so being able to differentiate work will be vital. Additionally, there will be some expectation to work with students who are disengaged and may display more challenging behaviour. The applicant will need to be able to display confidence and resilience when managing the needs of these pupils.

Other highlights of this role include:

  • Supporting full time teaching staff, producing resources for students to use and engage with.
  • Producing feedback on student performance – this includes regular communication with the Head of Department as well as Senior Leaders.
  • Working on a small group basis with students when required, providing pupils with consistent 1:1 guidance.
  • Preparing students for exams. as well as providing in-class support.
