HE Peer Mentor – ONLY OPEN TO CURRENT SEC HE STUDENTS AND RECENT GRADUATES We are particularly looking for students from the Social Sciences Portfolio area. This role is aimed at HE students, who will be entering their 2nd and 3rd year in September 2021 and 2019/20 and 2020/21 graduates. What is the role of a Peer Mentor? As a Peer Mentor, you will share your knowledge with first year degree students and FE students about the opportunities, services and resources available within the College. You will also support year 2 and 3 students in skills development, wellbeing, developing independence, reflection, postgraduate study or employment (the support you provide will depend on your year of study). Who can apply to be a peer mentor?Applicants need to be studying a HE degree course at South Essex College and progressing into their 2nd or 3rd year. We also welcome applications from PGCE students and recent graduates. How are sessions run?Mentors will arrange 1-2-1 sessions with their assigned mentees with support from the HE Student Services Team.Mentors will also provide mentoring via our new online e-mentoring system Will I receive training?As a Peer Mentor, you will receive training and full support in this role, which offers a unique opportunity to develop leadership skills, gain experience in a support related role and make a real difference to the lives of the students.
