Wold Farms Ltd is one of the largest outdoor reared pig producers in the UK and part of a leading food manufacturer Cranswick plc. Operating across East Yorkshire, Lincolnshire, Nottinghamshire and the Midlands, we pride ourselves on the development of strong working relationships with our contract pig rearers and finishers, professional management and an absolute focus on the highest standards of animal welfare. We have a growing team of Farm Managers, Fieldpersons and Office staff who’s hard work and dedication have been key to ensuring our success through their commitment to ensuring the highest standards across all areas of our business.

The ongoing expansion of Wold Farms means that we are looking for bright new talented individuals to join our growing business as Trainee Farm Managers. We have created a one-year programme for new entrants into our business, to develop their skills and capabilities to become a farm manager for one of our many pig enterprises.

Main duties include (but not limited to):

  • Ensure that the farm hits and exceed production targets consistently throughout the year
  • Adhere to guidelines set out by the Operations Director, with regards to service targets and gilt management
  • Responsible for ensuring that the welfare of all animals under her/his authority is paramount
  • Ensuring all stock has access to water, food, shelter (clean/ dry/ warm area to rest)
  • The Trainee Manager will take joint responsibility with the Farm Manager to ensure that all farming staff members are aware of their daily work requirements and are fully trained to complete their duties
  • Ensuring that all staff members are carrying out their role according to the training they have received
  • Work alongside the Farm Manager and Operations Director on deciding the layout and structure of the farm and then implement this
  • Responsible for moving sites, fields and livestock and implementing new ideas as well as keeping a tidy and presentable farm
  • Requirements, experience and person specification

  • Agricultural and livestock experience is a requirement- this doesn’t have to be specific to pigs
  • IT literate, competent using Microsoft excel, word and outlook
  • The ability to communicate, present and influence at all levels
  • Strong leadership skills and able to lead a team embedding high standards of workmanship
  • Motivated and driven to achieve, always looking for ways to improve
  • An excellent team player
  • A Full UK driver’s license is an essential requirement
