Sociology, 42-43 Park End Street, Oxford, OX1 1JD Grade 5: £25,941-£ 30,942 per annum The Department of Sociology seeks an enthusiastic, efficient and highly committed Graduate Studies Administrator (GSA). This post, which is a pivotal position within the Department’s admin team, provides an excellent opportunity to gain substantial experience of graduate student administration and to develop their career in university administration in one of the UKs leading universities. The successful applicant will be part of small and busy administrative team and will provide academic admin support to the Department’s graduate programmes, the MSc in Sociology, the MPhil in Sociology and Demography, and the DPhil in Sociology, working closely with the Director of Graduate Studies, the Director of Taught Courses and the Chair of Exams. The role is varied, and will be attractive to someone with good all-round administrative skills and a career interest in higher education. The postholder will be involved in dealing with enquiries, admissions, course administration, student record management, examinations and publicity. The role requires a high level of personal discretion and the ability to manage day-to-day work effectively along with the ability to undertake recurring tasks, accurately and thoroughly. Candidates must have excellent written and verbal communication skills together with good organisational skills, with the ability to work independently but also as part of a team. They must also be adept at acquiring comprehensive knowledge and understanding of complex procedures, e.g. examination regulations, in order to be able to give advice on these. A very good level of IT skills, including Microsoft Outlook, Word and Excel, as well as ability to learn new IT systems quickly is also essential. This is a full-time, permanent post and will be available immediately.
