You will join our Building Structures Team
As our new Graduate, you will be part of a talented, fun and diverse team in Chester, working on a range of projects in a variety of sectors including commercial offices, education, healthcare, heritage, industrial, defence and residential. However, within the Chester office you will benefit by being able to interact with various other engineering disciples including Geotechnical, Civil, Highways and Project Managers. We actively encourage design flair and innovative solutions. Our 100 strong multi-disciplinary office is located on St John Street, Chester City Centre with easy access to what the city has to offer, including its cafes, restaurants and shops. We have cycle storage and shower facilities.
Working with the leading architects we are recognised for our bold innovative approach, that is underpinned by our Scandinavian design heritage and foundation ownership.
Previous education will be an important foundation, but your ability to learn new engineering concepts and pick up new technology quickly and effectively will define your success. If you enjoy challenging the status quo and finding efficient and novel ways to tackle unfamiliar engineering problems, then you will thrive here. If you believe that a design team can become more than the sum of its parts through effective communication, then you will fit in well. We are less interested if you can design a pipe or beam, but whether you can learn how to develop a tool or approach that will design it better and more quickly than the industry has yet imagined. Your key tasks and responsibilities will be:
Contribute to the overall design and delivery of buildings, including the component parts of the structure
Join Ramboll’s ICE or IStructE training scheme and progress your professional development with support from your mentor
Identify opportunities for digital automation and/or optimisation of building systems, interfaces and /or their components parts
Develop digital tools and approaches to leverage these opportunities
Translate complex engineering concepts and solutions into presentations, reports, sketches, drawings and infographics that communicate their essence and demonstrate their value to our clients and key stakeholders
Identify potential health & safety, design, sustainability and commercial risks on our projects and contribute towards mitigating them
Monitor the implementation of design throughout the entire project lifecycle, from initial concepts to visits on site
Learn to manage projects effectively and communicate with other designers, clients and stakeholders to achieve project success
Learn how to assess, review and repair existing buildings and structures to minimise intervention while helping to retain part of the UK’s rich building heritage for future generations
Proactively pursue continuous professional development including working towards chartership with a recognised institution

A BEng, MEng or MSc level degree in a relevant engineering
Interest/experience in the design of the primary construction materials (steel, concrete and/or timber)
Demonstrable aptitude to learn computer programming languages and complex data manipulation and processing (e.g. Dynamo, Grasshopper, Python, C++, C#, PowerBI, SQL, .net, etc.)
Ability to summarise and present complex engineering concepts via different channels (e.g. report writing, Power Point, hand sketching)
An understanding of Digital Automation and Optimisation
