Job Description

To assist the Department Manager in ensuring the Department is efficiently and effectively managed at all time, and be responsible for the delivery of the highest standards of care and services.

Job Type:  Permanent and full time

Shifts:  37.5 hours per week – Monday to Sunday (Days/Nights/Weekends)

Duties & Responsibilities

  • To line manage a team of staff nurses and HCAs being responsible for approving annual leave, managing sickness and approving/managing training, and ensuring that performance reviews are carried out.
  • To attend and organise Department meetings.
  • To attend Ward Managers’ meetings in the absence of the Ward Manager
  • To plan staff duty rotas to ensure economical, effective staff: patient allocation whilst including internal rotation
  • Skills & Experience

  • Registered General Nurse with valid NMC registration
  • At least 2 current years’ experience as E-Grade Nurse within DDU/Gastro
  • Extensive experience within acute nursing
  • To be articulate, enthusiastic and flexible
