What does our Employer Solutions team do?

Taxis a fact of life – it’s deducted from our wages, added to things we buy, paidby companies and rarely out of the news headlines these days. But a career intax isn’t just about numbers. It’s about working with people and businesses toreally understand what they want to achieve and make sure tax doesn’t become anobstacle to their long-term goals.

In Employer Solutions, we work alongside employers to cover a whole host ofissues and our work can be broken down into three broad, but very much interconnectedareas of technical expertise:

  • Global mobility: assisting employers when they are moving people around the world;
    Share schemes and reward: helping employers to structure their incentive plans in such a way that they can properly inspire and motivate their teams;
  • Employment Tax: working with employers to understand the tax implications of everything they provide to employees and directors.
  • Weadvise employers in all of these areas, in order that they can properly meettheir tax reporting obligations. Understanding our clients, their workforcesand their long term objectives, is crucial in helping them do this.

    Weadvise businesses of all sizes and from all sectors of industry, helping themcomply with the complex UK tax regime and also, in many cases, the tax regimeof several overseas territories. Tax is central to what we do, but it requiresus to have an understanding and appreciation of a whole range of other issues:legal, regulatory and commercial. Getting involved with compliance work willallow you to get to know your clients’ businesses well, and therefore we willexpect you to spot opportunities for them to benefit from tax incentives or toavoid potentially costly pitfalls. This will help enable you to understand theissues that clients will ask us to advise on – you can expect to be involved indelivering tax advisory work alongside the team at an early stage. Taxcompliance and tax planning are an important part of any employer’s strategyand we can help them get this right.

    What can you expect?

    RSM’sgraduate programme in Employer Solutions will give you a solid foundation in abroad range of tax issues that an employer will face. With us, you’ll beinvolved in projects from day one – anything from meeting clients for the firsttime to preparing and submitting tax returns for internationally mobileemployees. The variety of work we do and the range of clients we work with meanyou’ll have plenty of opportunity to discover a career path that fits yourinterests and long-term goals. With our support you’ll have the space to growprofessionally so you can confidently take on ever-more challenging tasks.

    AtRSM, you’ll gain hands-on experience, have access to on-the-job mentoring andtrain towards a professional tax qualification. The study route available inthis team which will help you become a Chartered Tax Adviser is the Tax Pathwayroute, which consists of the ATT (The Association of Taxation Technicians) and theCTA (Chartered Tax Adviser) professional qualifications. Alongside yourtechnical training, you will attend internal developmental training courses toensure you have the professional and personal skills to become a trustedChartered Tax Adviser.

    Asyou come towards the end of your studies, you’ll have a deep understanding ofemployer solutions. This will be reflected in the complexity of your clientportfolio and your responsibilities, including mentoring more junior members ofthe team.

    What we look for

    Tax is a technically demanding discipline, so we look for graduates whoare always up for a challenge and are quick to grasp new subjects. While youdon’t have to be a maths genius, you will need to be comfortable with numbers.At RSM, you’ll be helping a big range of clients – from employees working inmultiple locations to HR and finance contacts of our clients – so it’simportant that you’re adaptable. You’ll often need to explain complex technicalinformation during client meetings and in written reports, so we’re looking forgraduates with excellent verbal and written communication skills. We also lookfor team players who enjoy interacting with others and are curious about howbusinesses work.

    Our Recruitment Process

    Minimum Qualifications

    Entry requirements

    At RSM, wedon’t just look for good exam results. We think passion, personality andoriginality are just as important.

    You will need:

  • 112 UCAS (new tariff) across 3 A Levels or an equivalent level 3 qualification or 104 UCAS (new tariff) across 4 Scottish Highers/Advanced Highers. Please note, RSM does not accept General Studies, AS levels or the Extended Project Qualification (EPQ).
  • A predicted or obtained honours degree.
  • UCASchanged their points system so under the old tariff it would be 280 or 260points respectively.
