This is an exciting role offering opportunity for the successful candidate to expand their professional skills set for architecting, developing and implementing the solutions to support and delivery the University’s Education Strategy – ensuring that they meet the current and future needs of the University. As an Education & Student Solutions Analyst, the role is focused on delivering innovative Education & Student Solutions that represent good value in line with the University’s Education Strategy and Architecture Design Principals. The post holder will act as a change agent to transition quality solutions to IT Services and the user community. The post holder will be working with technical experts and Solutions Architects to manage the introduction of new solutions and enhancements of Education & Student application such as University Timetabling Systems, University Student Information Systems (SITS), Library Management Systems and other related applications in the landscape. The successful candidate will be innovative and have a good understanding of solution development lifecycle. They will have experience working with one or more applications within Education and Student domain. The successful candidate will be expected to have an excellent technical analysis and problem-solving skills and be able to communicate effectively with both technical and non-technical colleagues at all levels. The role will report to the Student & Teaching Solutions Manager. This post will be offered on an indefinite contract. This is a full-time post – 100% full time equivalent.

Key responsibilities

• Contribute to the creation of Services and Products strategy within Education & Student Domain • Contribute to the successful design, development and delivery of solutions in support of the University’s Education Strategies • Assist with providing domain knowledge to achieve beneficial change through projects and other initiatives. • Assist with contributing to the improvement of business processes in order to reduce variation and eliminate waste, with the desired outcome to optimise business systems • Assist with technical requirements and solutions analysis • Assist with providing technical knowledge within Education & Student domains • Assisting Technical Coordinators with producing the design artifacts to ensure the solution to meet the business needs, delivered to the agreed standard and fit with architectural principles, standards, etc. in collaboration with the IT Architecture team • Practically apply existing, new and emerging technologies to new and evolving business and operating models, with the support of Business, Information and Technology architects working across the university • Provide the third line support for applications within Education & Student domain The above list of responsibilities may not be exhaustive, and the post holder will be required to undertake such tasks and responsibilities as may reasonably be expected within the scope and grading of the post.

Skills, knowledge, and experience 

Essential criteria • Good understanding and working experience of supporting one or more applications/systems within Education & Student domain (e.g. Timetabling, SITS, Library Management Systems, InPlace, Kaizen, etc) • Good understanding of Education & Student application architecture including familiarisation with SQL, .net, Windows server o/s, virtualization and systems and data security issues, etc. • Good understanding of the full solution development lifecycle • Ability to seek innovative and cost-effective solutions to suit changing priorities with well-developed analytical and problem-solving skills • Good understanding of IT service management, including change and problem management. • Ability to resolve issues without clear or pre-defined solutions • Ability to cope with multiple assignments and projects simultaneously in a high pressured environment • Experience of working within a project/solution delivery environment including contribution to producing technical requirements, solution design, technical documents, etc • Willingness to update professional knowledge and a commitment to continuous improvement • Ability to concisely articulate ideas to both technical and non-technical audience • A good understanding of the university’s business processes and terminology Desirable criteria  • Education to degree standard and/or equivalent qualifications and experience • Experience of solution design and architecture • Appreciation of key issues within the HE sector (political, social, economic) and appreciation of how these forces drive technology requirements and solutions • ITIL 4 foundation qualification/experience
