What does our corporate tax team do?

Tax is a fact of life – it’s deducted from our wages, added tothings we buy, paid by companies and rarely out of the news headlines thesedays. But a career in tax isn’t just about numbers. It’s about working withpeople and businesses to really understand what they want to achieve and makesure tax doesn’t become an obstacle to their long-term goals. We advisecompanies of all sizes and from all sectors of business, helping them complywith the complex UK tax regime and also, in many cases, the tax regime ofseveral overseas territories.

Gettinginvolved with compliance work will allow you to get to know your clients’ businesseswell, and therefore we will expect you to spot opportunities for them tobenefit from tax incentives or to avoid potentially costly pitfalls. Taxcompliance and tax planning are an important part of all major corporatestrategy and RSM can help them get this right.

AtRSM, you’ll gain hands-on experience, have access to on-the-job mentoring andtrain towards a professional tax qualification. When you join this team, youwill work towards the CTA qualification through the Joint Programme route(ACA/CTA). We are committed to ensuring that the route through to qualificationis the best for you as an individual and maximises your potential. Alongsideyour technical training, you will attend internal developmental trainingcourses to ensure you have the professional and personal skills to become atrusted Chartered Tax Advisor.

Asyou come towards the end of your studies, you’ll have a deep understanding ofcorporate tax. This will be reflected in the complexity of your clientportfolio and your responsibilities, including mentoring more junior members ofthe team.

What we look for

Tax is a technically demanding discipline, so we look forgraduates who are always up for a challenge and are quick to grasp newsubjects. While you don’t have to be a maths genius, you will need to becomfortable with numbers.

At RSM, you’ll be helping a bigrange of clients – from wealthy individuals to major multinationals – so it’simportant that you’re adaptable. You’ll often need to explain complex technicalinformation during client meetings and in written reports, so we’re looking forgraduates with excellent verbal and written communication skills. We also lookfor team players who enjoy interacting with others and are curious about howbusinesses work.

Our Recruitment Process

Pleasenote, for those who perform well throughout our assessment process, should yourfirst preference be unavailable, you could potentially be offered a role inanother location or department. This would always be discussed with you in thisinstance.

Minimum Qualifications

Entry requirements

At RSM, wedon’t just look for good exam results. We think passion, personality andoriginality are just as important.

  • You will need:
    112 UCAS (new tariff) across 3 A Levels or an equivalent level 3 qualification or 104 UCAS (new tariff) across 4 Scottish Highers/Advanced Highers. Please note, RSM does not accept General Studies, AS levels or the Extended Project Qualification (EPQ).
  • A predicted or obtained honours degree.
  • UCASchanged their points system so under the old tariff it would be 280 or 260points respectively.
