Company Description

Dstl employs some of the world’s brightest people. We’re always on the lookout for talented, creative, dedicated and innovative individuals to join us. Dstl is all about innovation and multidisciplinary creativity. We’re responsible for designing, developing and applying the very latest in science and technology for the benefit of UK defence and security, across government. We work with the best people with the best ideas around the world – from very small companies to world-class universities, huge defence companies and sometimes other nations. Together we develop battle-winning technologies, based on deep and widespread research, to support UK military operations, now and in the future.

We recruit scientists, engineers, analysts, programme and project managers, and finance, logistics, medical and communications personnel. While each role will have its own individual qualification and technical requirements, there are some standard requirements and personal qualities we look for in our candidates.

Our work in defence, security and intelligence requires our employees to be British Citizens who are able to gain a high level of security clearance to understand the work you will undertake to protect us from any security threats. For this reason, we regret that only UK Nationals will be able to apply for this role. If you are an international or dual-national candidate, and you think you have the skills we need, please consider applying to any of our government, security or defence partners across the enterprise. We work closely with the Defence and Security Industry on many projects, so it would be great to work with you via one of our partners.

As well as a rewarding career in defence science and technology, Dstl offers its staff (including graduates, industrial placement students, summer students and apprentices) a wide range of benefits and training opportunities in a supportive, encouraging and flexible environment. This includes a flexible working policy, support for managing family life while working, generous annual leave, and pension scheme.

Early careers commitment statement

Dstl is an inclusive working environment where everybody is encouraged to fulfil their maximum potential. We are a proud member of the 5% club, a collection of employers who are committed to early careers by guaranteeing at least 5% of their staff are in ‘earn and learn’ positions. We recruit around 80 graduates and offer around 150 student-placement opportunities every year from a wide range of backgrounds and disciplines. We strive to create a hands-on and supportive environment for all students and graduates to ensure them the best start to their career.
