Location: Hammersmith
Pay: £101.40 to £110 per day, Monday to Friday, term time only
Start Date: September 2025 – trial days and weeks taking place from Wednesday 10th September and Monday 15th September
Contract: Full-time, Monday to Friday (8:30 am – 4:00 pm), Temporary to Permanent (Until the end of the Summer Term, with the opportunity to go permanent)

Milk Education is recruiting for an Unqualified Teaching Assistant to work in a specialist school in Hammersmith, supporting students with Social, Emotional, and Mental Health (SEMH) needs, autism, and challenging behaviour. This hands-on role will equip you with key skills in behaviour intervention, de-escalation, and trauma-informed practices—core foundations for a future career in criminal justice or therapeutic work.

About the Role:

You will work with students aged 4–16 who struggle with emotional regulation, social interaction, and educational engagement. Many have experienced trauma, adverse childhood experiences (ACEs), and difficulties with authority. Your core focus will be on building trust, fostering emotional resilience, and guiding students in positive behavioural change—preparing them for reintegration into mainstream education or society.

This is a specialist setting for children with EHCPs relating to autism, speech and language challenges, sensory needs, trauma, anxiety, depression, and associated neurodivergent conditions.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Building strong, positive relationships with students to encourage trust and engagement
  • Supporting pupils in managing emotions and developing strategies to regulate behaviour
  • Providing academic and emotional support in small groups or 1:1
  • Helping prevent exclusion by promoting engagement and consistency
  • Assisting lesson delivery, ensuring students feel supported and calm
  • Using restorative and trauma-informed practices to manage behaviour and relationships
  • Helping students develop life skills to support them beyond school

    • What We’re Looking For:

  • Graduates in Psychology, Criminology, Youth & Community Work, or similar fields
  • Non-graduates with relevant youth work, mentoring, or care experience are also welcome
  • A strong drive to work with children and young people at risk of exclusion or entering the criminal justice system
  • Calm, patient, and emotionally intelligent individuals who can remain composed in challenging situations
  • Previous experience working with vulnerable youth, SEMH, or neurodivergent learners is desirable (training provided)
  • A sincere passion for social justice, advocacy, and mental health rehabilitation
